CCT-US Partners with the Loggerhead Marinelife Center to Fund Chagos Turtle Research
In an expansion to the CCT-UScommitment to science and research in the Chagos Archipelago , the trust has forged a strategic partnership with the Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC;https://marinelife.org/), a premier non-profit education and conservation facility based in Juno Beach, Florida.
Both CCT-US and LMC mission is to promote conservation of ocean ecosystems;while the CCT-US emphasizes science in the Chagos Archipelago, the LMC focuses on threatened and endangered sea turtles. To advance both missions, the two organizations will fundraise jointly to finance a scientist to conduct turtle research in the Chagos Archipelago.
The partnership was jointly announced by LMC’s President and CEO, Jack Lighton, and Sam Purkis, Chair and Co-Founder of CCT-US, during LMC’s Circle of 100 Spring Dinner. At the event, Sam gave a presentation to introduce the vast Chagos Marine Reserve, Earth’s largest. Sam was also invited to become a member of LMC’s Research and Rehabilitation Committee, a position that he gratefully accepted.
